Specialist Samten, 33, of Prescott, Arizona. He joined the Army in July 2006, and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In May 2007, he was assigned to the 7th Special Troops Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Eustis, Virginia. He was killed with 2 other soldiers in Tallil, Iraq, when their vehicle was hit by indirect fire. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal. He was posthumously promoted to Specialist. He is survived by his wife and children.
