Sgt. Donald J. Lamar II, 23, of Fredericksburg, Va., died May 12 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was a 2004 graduate of Stafford High School, where he was a wrestler, baseball player and football player. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Lamar and daughter, Madison Anne; his parents, Donald J. and Coleen T. Lamar; maternal grandmother, Pauline V. Lamar; brothers, Stephen C. Lamar, and Joseph M. Lamar; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. His awards include the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
