Naval Petty Officer Third Class Brandie Colleen Curtis, of Portsmouth, Virginia, died August 11, 2011 while vacationing in Oklahoma. Brandie, age 27, was born in Riverside, California and lived most of her life in Phoenix. At the time of her death, Brandie was stationed on the aircraft carrier, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and proudly served in Operation Enduring Freedom during 2008 and 2009. Brandie was a boisterous, fun-loving, adventure-seeking spirit. She had three great loves: her family, the Navy and soccer. She enjoyed new experiences and rarely turned away from a challenge. She believed in the ties of family and made it a priority to spend time with all members of her immediate and extended families. Brandie is survived by her loving parents, Mike and Lynn Van Patter of Phoenix, siblings Cyndie Bowlen of Goodyear, twins Colt and Skylar Van Patter of Phoenix, Aubrey and Jake Curtis of Oklahoma, her maternal grandfather, Phil Clinton of California and her paternal grandparents, Duane and Jolene Van Patter of Nebraska. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive her. Her beloved grandmother, Dee Clinton, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, Noon at Phoenix Friends Church, 8055 N. 39th Avenue with a reception immediately following the service. Interment will be Monday, August 22, 9 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 23029, N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
