Pfc. Joseph J. Duenas of Mesa, Arizona joined the Army in November 2004, and he arrived at Fort Campbell in February 2005. His awards and decorations include: Weapons Qualification, M4, expert; National Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Combat Infantry Badge; and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He is survived by his wife, Shawna, of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother and stepfather, Rose and John Garret, of Lorenzo, Calif., and father, Michael Tibbits, of Kapolei, Hawaii. He was the 136th soldier from Fort Campbell to have been killed in the war in Iraq. He died from non-combat-related injuries while returning from combat operations in Kirkuk Province, Iraq at age 23.
