Death: Nov. 5, 2005, Iraq Lieutenant Col. Wren of Lorton, Virginia was an adviser with the Richmond-based 80th Institutional Training Division.
Wren joined the Army in 1981 and the 80th in 1984. He was assigned to locations that included Alexandria, Charlottesville, Culpeper, Wilmington, Del., Owings Mills, Md., and Harrisburg, Pa. He was a veteran of service in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq. Thomas came from a family of veterans. His father served in Vietnam, and his grandfather was in World War II and the Korean War. His awards include the Bronze Star, the Army Achievement Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, six Army Reserve Component Medals, three National Defense Service Medals, two Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, two Armed Forces Reserve Medals and two NATO Medals. He had been married a few months, and is the father of three sons, 18, 16, and 6 months; and two daughters, 26 and 12. He died at age 44 in Tallil, Iraq, when a civilian vehicle pulled in front of his HMMWV causing it to roll-over. Army
