Cpl. Adam J. Fargo of Ruckersville, Virginia was a standout on the William Monroe High School soccer team. He joined the Army on Dec. 30, 2004, after deciding against college and working at local pizza joints. He decided he wanted to make something of himself. He had already taken the steps and talked to recruiters. He knew it would be a hard life, but it was a good life. Known to most as Doc. Fargo for his medical skills, he also volunteered with one of the best engineering units assisting in detonating IED (Improvised Explosive Devises, also known as roadside bombs) and often volunteered to drive during their most extreme missions. Most importantly Cpl. Fargo was awarded the Combat Medical Badge for his bravery in assisting two fellow soldiers simultaneously under combat. This is a very prestigious award given only to those who are most deserving. He was the only soldier in his unit to obtain such an honorable decoration. Cpl. Fargo was a dedicated, model soldier who was killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom. His father was an Army veteran, and so were both his grandfathers. He is survived by his parents, Douglas A Fargo and Elizabeth S Fargo. Adam is also survived by his brother, Jason Fargo; his sister, Sarah Fargo; paternal grandfather, Douglas C. Fargo; and maternal grandparents, Lt. Col. William F. Stecher and Audrey Stecher. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marie Laura Mae Fargo. He was 22.
