In 1984 Peter enlisted in the Army National Guard as an enlisted Soldier. After rising to the rank of Staff Sgt, in 1988 he was selected for Officers Candidate School while serving in the Illinois National Guard. He has moved quickly up the ranks and continued his education at each step. He was selected for the US Army War College and was working on his Master’s Degree from Troy University at the time of his passing. Career spanned more than two decades and the National Guards of six states, to include Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, and Arizona. In addition, in 2005, Peter deployed to Iraq for 12 months as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Trained outside the United States with deployment to Kazakhstan to work with the Kazakhstani Army. Assignments include: platoon leader, company commander, mobilization planner, training officer, battalion, brigade and state signal officer; state historian, brigade operations officer, battalion commander, mobilization branch chief, and executive officer of the Los Angeles District Construction Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Peter was posthumously promoted to Colonel on Sept. 16, 2013.
